1986 - Walton is reelected to the County Commission.

| In 1975 when Fred Alexander is elected to the state senate, the city council appoints Harvey Gantt over Bob Walton to serve Alexander’s unexpired council term. Bob Walton, a popular leader in the black community and it’s choice for Alexander’s seat, subsequently runs and wins a seat on the Board of County Commissioners in 1976. Walton is re-elected to three more consecutive terms as a commissioner from 1980 - 1986. When the county commission elections change to district voting in 1986, Walton becomes a fixture in District 2 serving as its commissioner until his death in 1994. |
