1986 - Walton is reelected to the County Commission.
In 1975 when Fred Alexander is elected to the state senate, the city council appoints Harvey Gantt over Bob Walton to serve Alexander’s unexpired council term. Bob Walton, a popular leader in the black community and it’s choice for Alexander’s seat, subsequently runs and wins a seat on the Board of County Commissioners in 1976. Walton is re-elected to three more consecutive terms as a commissioner from 1980 - 1986. When the county commission elections change to district voting in 1986, Walton becomes a fixture in District 2 serving as its commissioner until his death in 1994.
